Old Silvana Creamery recalling whole raw milk

The Daily Herald - 12/15/2017

SILVANA — Old Silvana Creamery has issued a recall for whole raw milk that may be contaminated with the E. coli bacteria.

The creamery announced the recall Thursday, saying there had not been any known cases of illness associated with the milk.

The bacteria might cause symptoms such as diarrhea and stomach cramps that generally appear several days after exposure. In severe cases, it can cause a disease linked to kidney failure.

The recall came after routine sampling by the state Department of Agriculture. Raw milk from the creamery, including the "Jim's Jerseys" and "Guernsey Goodness" brands, with "Best By" dates between Dec. 15 and 23 should not be consumed. It can be returned for a refund.

The milk was sold at the farm store, directly to customers and at local stores.
